Music Monday: Black History Month

February 19, 2018

Although we are more than halfway through February, we only have nine more days to appreciate Black History Month. As an American, many of us have been conditioned to acknowledge African American History for only twenty-eight days out of the year. Fortunately, I grew up in a household where the historical contributions African Americans were appreciated and celebrated every day. Ha, and I’m not joking! My Mother did not play. That being said, I decided to create a playlist to keep the momentum going. Please note, the musical selection ranges from the early 1960s to the early 2000s, all empowering tunes. So, when you get a chance, check out the playlist below:

  1. “Glory,” Common, John Legend
  2. “Life Every Voice and Sing,” The Wardlaw Brothers
  3. “Lean on Me,” Bill Withers
  4. “Say It Loud,” James Brown
  5. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell
  6. “Respect,” Aretha Franklin
  7. “Move On Up,” Curtis Mayfield
  8. “Ooh Child,” The Five Stairsteps
  9. “What’s Going On,” Marvin Gaye
  10. “Fight the Power,” Public Enemy
  11. “U.N.I.T.Y.,” Queen Latifah
  12. “I Can,” Nas
  13. “Brown Skin,” India.Arie
  14. “Brotha,” Angie Stone

WIWT: Layering

What I’m Wearing
Jacket: Old Navy | Hoodie: TARGET | Jeans: H&M | Boots: DSW

Happy Hump Day! Over the years, I’ve learned a thing our two about the art of layering from a few celebrity resources. Case in point, hip hop sensation, Kanye West is known for his amazing tracks and grungy street style. One of his signature looks is the baggie hoodie and overcoat combo. Simple, yet trendy, this pairing is ideal for seasonal layering. I’ve been so inspired by Mr. Yeezy, I decided to take a stab at his hoodie-coat pairing myself. As shown above, I layered my grey hooded sweatshirt under my favorite wool peacoat. Such a simple concept with amazing results! Plus, the camel and grey add a nice little contrast. For the rest of the outfit, I kept it simple with these denim moto jeans and brown combat boots. So, how do you feel about this particular look? Feel free to share in the comments section below.

Until we meet again,

OOTD: November 2016
Outfit of the Week
Coat: Tomorrowland | Pants: Diverso | Shoes: Saks Fifth Avenue

Happy early Valentine’s Day! Today, I decided to create this very “date night” appropriate look with a few of my seasonal favorites. Starting from the top, the wool camel coat is a personal favorite. It’s the perfect outerwear for an evening on the town. Plus, it looks great when worn with the bright, fire red engine sweater underneath. The sweater also looks great paired with these tailored fit, grey pants. Fellas, be sure to treat your Valentine to something special this week. Make it count!

Good luck,

What I’m Wearing
Sweater: Thrifted | Coat: ASOS | Pants: ASOS | Sneakers: Converse

Whoa, two Sundays in a row?! It looks like I’m on a roll this month. Neverless, I decided to kick off the week with a new #SecondhandSundays post. Today, it’s all about the wool sweater. More specifically, the v-neck jumper. I actually found this particular sweater at my local Goodwill. One thing for sure: this fun sweater can be dressed up or down, depdning on your personal style. I actually decided to dress down the sweater with a longline puffer jacket and  my favorite navy track pants. Nice combo, right?  So, how do you feel about this particular look? Feel free to share in the comments section below.

See Ya,
