The Color Block Challenge: Seven Color-Blocked Looks

Sometimes getting dressed is about looking good.

It’s all about seeing what happens when you stop playing it safe.

For this challenge, I put together seven color-blocked looks using combinations that most people would never grab off the rack at the same time. Some worked exactly how I imagined, while others surprised me!

Here’s what happened.

Pink + Yellow

This one feels like summer.

Bright! Fun! Impossible to be in a bad mood while wearing it.

I paired a pink knit sweater vest with yellow pants and kept the sandals simple.

Yellow + Purple

One of my favorite color combinations in the challenge (My grad school colors).

The contrast does all the work.

I styled a yellow collar shirt with purple shorts and white sneakers. Clean, easy, and perfect for warm weather.

Orange + Royal Blue

Loud in the best possible way!

If subtle is your thing, keep scrolling.

I paired an orange sweater vest with royal blue pants and finished the look with these jellies I found on Etsy. Yes! I do own a pair of jellies.

The silhouette is classic. The colors do all the talking.

Green + Pink

The star of the collection!

This combination has no business working this well, but here we are.

I layered a green windbreaker over pink shorts and loafers. Sporty on top, polished on the bottom.

Royal Blue + Red

Strong. Clean. Classic.

Sometimes the obvious choice is still a good choice.

I combined a red polo with royal blue trousers and sandals. Nothing complicated. Just two colors working together.

Red + Green

Let’s free red and green from their holiday obligations. Ha!

These colors deserve more than December.

I paired red athletic shorts with a royal blue sweatshirt and flip-flops. Proof that color blocking works outside of tailored looks too.

Purple + Orange

A perfect way to end the challenge.

Bold, energetic, and a little chaotic.

Just how I like it.

I styled a purple cable knit vest with orange leather pants and classic loafers. The rich colors give the look plenty of personality without feeling overdone.

Final Thoughts

The older I get, the less interested I am in fashion rules.

Some of these combinations worked better than others. That’s the point though. The challenge wasn’t finding the perfect outfit, but rather giving each color a chance.

Which look is your favorite?

Sincerely,

-Bryce Lennon

The Ultimate Guide to Dressing Up Sweatpants

What I’m Wearing
Sweatpants | Corduroy Shirt | Chuck Taylors

Dressing up sweatpants is really about balance, so I paired mine with a corduroy shirt to add some texture and structure. The Chuck Taylors keep it grounded and casual, but still intentional, like I didn’t just roll out of bed and call it a day. It’s comfortable, it’s put together, and it proves sweatpants can absolutely step outside.

Until next fit,

What I’m Wearing
Rugby Shirt| Jeans | Loafers

A rugby shirt already has personality, so I let it lead and kept everything else clean with jeans and loafers. I like this combo because it feels sporty but still put together, like I could go anywhere and not look out of place. It’s easy, it’s classic, and it just works every time.

The Best Way to Dress Up a Crewneck

What I’m Wearing
Crewneck| Khakis | Mary Jane Loafers

A crewneck sweatshirt is one of those pieces that can go from basic to styled up real quick depending on how you wear it. I paired mine with khakis and Mary Jane loafers to give it that clean, slightly preppy feel while still keeping things relaxed. It’s simple, it works, and it proves you don’t have to do much to make a crewneck look intentional.

Stay styled,
