Although we are more than halfway through February, we only have nine more days to appreciate Black History Month. As an American, many of us have been conditioned to acknowledge African American History for only twenty-eight days out of the year. Fortunately, I grew up in a household where the historical contributions African Americans were appreciated and celebrated every day. Ha, and I’m not joking! My Mother did not play. That being said, I decided to create a playlist to keep the momentum going. Please note, the musical selection ranges from the early 1960s to the early 2000s, all empowering tunes. So, when you get a chance, check out the playlist below:
- “Glory,” Common, John Legend
- “Life Every Voice and Sing,” The Wardlaw Brothers
- “Lean on Me,” Bill Withers
- “Say It Loud,” James Brown
- “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell
- “Respect,” Aretha Franklin
- “Move On Up,” Curtis Mayfield
- “Ooh Child,” The Five Stairsteps
- “What’s Going On,” Marvin Gaye
- “Fight the Power,” Public Enemy
- “U.N.I.T.Y.,” Queen Latifah
- “I Can,” Nas
- “Brown Skin,” India.Arie
- “Brotha,” Angie Stone
Much respect,
