Music Monday: Black History Month

February 19, 2018

Although we are more than halfway through February, we only have nine more days to appreciate Black History Month. As an American, many of us have been conditioned to acknowledge African American History for only twenty-eight days out of the year. Fortunately, I grew up in a household where the historical contributions African Americans were appreciated and celebrated every day. Ha, and I’m not joking! My Mother did not play. That being said, I decided to create a playlist to keep the momentum going. Please note, the musical selection ranges from the early 1960s to the early 2000s, all empowering tunes. So, when you get a chance, check out the playlist below:

  1. “Glory,” Common, John Legend

Music Monday: Philadelphia Eagles

February 5, 2018

The Philadelphia Eagles soared to victory with their first ever Super Bowl championship, and I couldn’t get enough of it! Since the City of Brotherly love is like my second home, I was completely glued to my television screen. To be honest, I haven’t kept up with NFL statistics in years, but that still doesn’t take away from my excitement for the win. That being said, I put together this little playlist in honor of this special occasion. I even through in a track from one of my personal favorites, Justin Timberlake, since he was the headliner during the half time show. So, when you get a chance, check out a few songs from the playlist below:

  1. “Gonna Fly Now,” Bill Conti
  2. “Streets of Philadelphia,” Bruce Springsteen
  3. “What We Do,” Freeway
  4. “Flipside,” Freeway
  5. “Dreams and Nightmares,” Meek Mill
  6. “We Are the Champions,” Queen
  7. “Champions,” Kanye West
  8. “Filthy,” Justin Timberlake
  9. “All Star,” Smash Mouth
