Life Advice: Morning Routine

Getting the morning started can be a little difficult, especially if you don’t have a consistent routine in place. Routine? Yes, routine! If you are a little confused, check out the first part of my morning routine below:

Wake-Up!

Even with eight hours of sleep, waking up is pretty exhausting. If you are a heavy sleeper like myself, you may need to set three alarms in the morning. Three alarms? Yes, three alarms! Also, I would suggest keeping your alarm on the opposite side of your bedroom. Why? I can only speak for myself, but I have a tendency to hit the snooze button every now in the down. Charging the phone across the room helps me get up at the sound of the first alarm. Think about it! Before I can hit the snooze button, my body is already up and wired.

Please Don’t Stop the Music

As you already know, music is essential to my soul. So, it’s no surprise that I have a “Getting Ready” and “Good Morning” playlist to start off the day. Being the relaxed person that I am, I have a soft spot for anything Sza, John Legend, Elle Varner, Kid Cudi, and even Kanye West in the wee hours of the morning.

So Fresh & So Clean

Shower time! Before stepping in the tub, make sure you have a loofah and soap bar in hand. Not only is stepping in the shower without your toiletries a waste of time, but it leaves a mess everywhere. Drying off when you forget a bar of soup never happens. If this is a consistent problem, maybe you should invest in an adjustable or double tier shower caddy.

Remember, this is only part one of my morning routine. Be sure to check back for Part Two in the upcoming weeks.

Jeans: Salvation Army | Cardigan: ASOS | Shirt: GAP| Boots: DSW

Secondhand stores are like gold mines for everything denim, including jeans. You can get every wash, fit, and style for a quarter of the price. You can’t beat that, right? if you don’t believe me, take a look at today’s featured outfit, as shown above. As you can see, I decided to step out in this all gray ensemble. The jeans, at a quick glance, look very a tad worn, in a good way. That’s because they were purchased from the Salvation Army for $4. You can’t beat that right? The remaining pieces were purchased on clearance from other retail stores including H&M, GAP, and DSW Shoe Warehouse. I hope you enjoyed this post. Check back for more updates this week!

Films for Guys

post_mwl1_101316_01“A young couple staying in an isolated vacation home are terrorized by three unknown assailants.” – IMDB

In this week’s Films for Guys post, I wanted to give a honorable mention to one of the best horror films of our generation, The Strangers. Back in 2008, I had an opportunity to catch this film in the theaters with one of my closest friends, and we both left with adrenaline rushes.

Why? In the course of ninety minutes, the director executes a simple, home invasion story-line quite well. The realism behind the cinematography and plot allows the viewer to make an instant connection to the two main protagonist from the very beginning.

One of my personal favorite scenes takes place near the beginning of the movie. Kristen, the main character, walks from the family room to the kitchen, while smoking a cigarette. Then, suddenly in the background, one of the intruders walks in frame and stares at Kristen from the distance. Although this scene is very relaxed at first, you feel a sense of unease, almost as if you are the victim.

I can spend hours talking about this movie, but you get the concept. It’s amazing. So, if you need help finding a fun horror fanatic like myself, purchase The Strangers. You won’t be disappointed.

Joggers: ASOS | Jacket: H&M | Denim Shirt: Old Navy | Sneakers: Adidas

Temperature wise, the month of October is a complete free for all! So, how do you prepare? Simple, dress in layers! As shown above, I styled my leather moto jacket with a light weight, denim shirt. Just in case the temperature heats up, I can always make an adjustment by taking off my jacket, leaving the denim shirt and joggers. Speaking of joggers, I’ve been stepping my sweatpants game up lately. These pants in particular were purchased from ASOS. Not only are these joggers in my favorite color family, they are quite unique. I rarely see other men wearing this color out. For a finishing touch, I threw on my old Adidas Sambas from DSW. So, how do you feel about this particular look? Feel free to share with me in the comments section below.
